Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, indicated that a future comeback remains something that could happen. The 58-year-old, post a game-changing near-decade reign featuring a European Cup triumph and the Reds’ first league title in 30 years, currently occupies roles overseeing worldwide football within the Red Bull organization and as an advisor with the German Football League.
The club claimed the league title last season, but many fans who adore the manager would embrace the idea that he might come back one day. Speaking candidly, he explained to Steven Bartlett: “I declared I refuse to lead another team on English soil. Therefore in case it's my former club...yeah. In theory, it could happen.”
“At 58 years old, that means I could make the decision down the line, who knows. Do I have to make the decision today? Then I will not coach again. Fortunately, no such pressure exists. I'll simply watch how things unfold.”
Questioned regarding what circumstances would have to unfold to tempt his return to the dugout, he confessed he isn't eager toward coming back. “I don’t even know exactly, I enjoy my current role,” he said. “I don't crave being a coach; No desire to be under bad weather for two-and-a-half or three hours; No need for press conferences repeatedly each week or constant media duties weekly.
“No nostalgia for the changing area per se, however, dining out with the team enjoying conversation, is pleasant. With many victories so there was often a very good mood at the club. I still have Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh ringing in my ears for example.”
He commended for his successor, praising him for the adjustments that won the league in the previous season. The team has suffered four consecutive matches in every contest after a summer spending spree, but he rubbished the suggestion that it might signal a decline.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker such as Wirtz, you will all eat your words if spoken against. A remarkable prospect. The French striker, superb talent. It’s a really good balanced team. Fans shouldn't fret about Liverpool, things will improve.”
The manager expressed deep feeling about the death of the Portuguese star, whom he brought in while in charge, and its impact on Liverpool. The forward lost his life in a road accident with his brother recently.
“Can you substitute a person like him? It’s not about his footballing ability, his personality mattered. I struggle to conceive the team environment missing him. I still cannot speak properly regarding this. It was an incredible shock for the entire squad also. No one within the club might employ it to justify results though it's a fact. You walk in a dressing room where his spirit remains. Dealing with that individually is challenging. Unbearable.”
