Madeleine McCann Brother and Sister Describe Alleged Stalker's Actions as Deeply Disturbing and Unsettling

Madeleine McCann's twin siblings, Sean and Amelie, have told the court that their interactions with an accused stalker were extremely disturbing and creepy. They explained feeling stressed and scared by a woman who claimed she was their long-lost sister.

Persistent Contact Described as Scary

Testifying via video link, she stated how the accused, Julia Wandelt, contacted her repeatedly through social media and written correspondence. Amelie explained the persistence was very frightening since it's impossible to predict what her next move might be.

Messages from Wandelt were read in the trial, in which she described recollections of living in the McCann household that she claimed were recovered during hypnotherapy. She told the court, It's very upsetting that she’s coming up with these alleged recollections, despite the fact she isn't Madeleine.

Altered Pictures Heightened Unease

Jurors learned that the accused had created images of Amelie and herself as children, which the prosecution alleged were made with ChatGPT. Some of these images were sent through online channels, while others were produced physically and enclosed in a mail to Amelie.

She said, I didn’t like it, it caused me to feel very uneasy. It was evident she altered the images to make me appear similar to her, which was very distressing. I was aware I didn’t look like that, I knew it had been manipulated.

Psychological Impact on the Household

Amelie also spoke about the impact of the supposed harassment on her mother, their mother, who gave evidence about being confronted at her residence by the defendant and her co-defendant, a 61-year-old woman.

I think my mother found it the hardest. She was harassed by Julia more than the rest of us and I believe it definitely had a negative effect on her and her wellbeing, she said. It’s upsetting when a person is pleading with you to believe them and playing with your feelings, to the extent you are doubting your own judgment.

Sibling's Testimony on Stress and Online Attention

In a testimony read to the trial, Sean McCann stated that personally, he had not been severely affected by the defendant's alleged harassment. However he had been upset that she was attracting online attention, with people saying hurtful and unjust things about his mother and father.

In the event that she was not mentally ill and was fully aware she is not Madeleine, yet makes these claims, that will be very upsetting for me, he testified. I am convinced she is my sibling. The reality that the defendant is engaging in this behavior has resulted in a great deal of stress and I consider it deeply disturbing.
